As the hustle and bustle of the holidays cool down, deals in the travel industry heat up. Valarie D'Elia explores some great hotel deals through a special "holiday hangover" promotion.

When the hustle of the holiday season slows down, the deals heat up in the travel industry. It’s called the holiday hangover period, when travelers can find secret pockets of savings in some unlikely places.

When the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree comes down, so do prices in the Big Apple. The early part of January is such a soft period for hotel bookings that a group of 30 properties are banding together for the third annual Hotel Week for discounted stays between January 3 – 12. The Broadway show season slows down in January as well, with Broadway Week returning this winter with two for one theater tickets to 26 Broadway shows. Tickets go on sale January 6 for curtains between January 21 and February 6. For more information, go to

You might not think it’s possible to score a deal in warmer climes, but January usually has some limited availability. For instance, the dreamy island of Anguilla has a spit of sand with your name on it at the Anacaona Boutique Hotel. January is also the time to catch the wave of cruise line deals. The busy booking period gets underway with boatloads of perks. For instance, Royal Caribbean is offering onboard credits as much as $400, depending on the cabin category.
