If you've fallen off of your New Year's Resolution, you're not alone. According to a study from the University of Scranton, of the 45 percent of Americans who make resolutions, only 8 percent actually achieve them.

"It's a difficult time to do it with stress from the holidays. Your holiday bills coming in. As much as we're optimistic and hopeful on the first day of the year, it's also a difficult time to begin," said Suzanna Brisk, Pathway to Wellness Coordinator at Upstate Medical University. "The weather's been terrible. Who wants to go outside if your activity or goal was to maybe change your exercise habits. And certainly, we've been in a floodload of food."

The top resolutions are to lose weight, get organized and spend less money. If you want to succeed, experts suggest setting specific, realistic goals.

"If you just say, I want to become more active or I want to eat healthier, that leaves a lot of leeway there. So by telling yourself I want to eat more fruits and vegetables, it becomes more specific. By telling yourself that you want to exercise three times a week, that gives you a specific goal and you know if you met it or not because it's easier to measure," said Brisk.

"If they tend to over-commit, then they tend to lose interest," said Scott Sears, the Associate Executive Director for the YMCA.

It's important to get the support you need to succeed.

"Make commitments to your friends. Even if you wanted to start exercising, you might be able to get someone in your neighborhood and say, 'Listen, will you commit with me and say we'll walk three times a week?' So you can get that same level of commitment even if your finances aren't ready for paying for a class," suggested Brisk.

Also, make sure to pick an exercise you like and can stick with.

Sears said, "Instead of traditionally thinking about getting on a treadmill or a cross trainer or a piece of equipment. We have things available, programmatic-wise that people can have fun doing and get exercise at the same time. They can come in and ride a bike. They can play basketball. They can play badminton. They can play dodgeball. They can do a lot of different activities and find something that's fun for them and engaging for them."

Remember, it's never too late to start your resolution again.
