There are a wide variety of lizards available as pets. Some are native to tropical climates others are from the desert.

The wonderful world of lizards is vast, varied and colorful. First let’s become familiar with the brightly colored water dragon. Exoctic animal rescuer and educator Diana Sleiertin introduces us.

"It's a lot like an iguana but it's not. He is a tree dwelling animal, but will spend a lot of time in the water if necessary. One of his ways of escaping is to drop out of the tress, and he can actually stay under water for about 25 minutes straight," Sleiertin said.

Meanwhile, the Niger uromastyx is native to the vast deserts of Africa, and at around 10 inches as an adult, is a perfect size for a pet.

If you are considering the uromastyx as a pet be certain about what species you are getting and ask about their adult size. Some species can be quite large," Sleiertin said.

Before you bring home any pet be sure you have the time energy and resources to care for them properly. These are not disposable animals.
