SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- A Moreau man will spend the next two to six years in state prison for leaving the scene of a fatal accident last year.

Paul Kollias, 50, was sentenced in Saratoga County Court on Monday.

Kollias hit Karen Eldred, 50, on June 17 as she crossed Route 9 in South Glens Falls near the Town and Country Motel where she was staying.

Kollias drove off without calling police. Eldred died on June 28 at Albany Medical Center.

A family member said Eldred's husband was too distraught to appear in court for the sentencing.

Eldred's sister-in-law Catherine Sweet said, "He is lost without her. She was his life. They don't have any kids. She was it. He spent 40 years finding a wife, and within seven, she was gone. He's never been married other than Karen."

Kollias apologized to the family and friends of the victim, saying he was sorry for what he had done. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
