GREENWICH, N.Y. -- Four pounds and 48 inches will hopefully accomplish what thousands of volunteers and over 160 search efforts could not.

"This aircraft has 5 confirmed finds, and we've been doing it for several years, it's been on many searches,” said Gene Robinson, Droid Operator.

The small, manually operated plane will be flying in densely wooded areas, and down near the riverbanks of the Battenskill all weekend looking for any sign of Jaliek.

"Just something more concrete than we have to date- we're not dealing with a lot of evidence as I've said many times in this case, we're looking for any shred of evidence as to Jaliek's where abouts,” said George Bell, Greenwich Police Chief.

"One of the things we bring to the table is that we've gotten very good at detecting things in pictures that don't belong,” said Robinson.

The drone will take hundreds of ariel pictures over the next few days that will spot any inconsistency at all.

"It would be a white speck on the ground, one of our finds was a white speck on the ground, and we marked that out, and it happened to be a tennis shoe,” said Robinson.

That type of accuracy will also help with the ground search. At this point volunteers looking on foot have exhausted their options, but every picture taken by the drone will come with GPS coordinates, which could pinpoint a place for volunteers to go look in.

"To think that the drone can do something in a few hours that it would take searchers weeks to do,” said Barbara Reely, Jaliek's Grandmother.

Having such high tech help might ultimately help the search. Robinson has been in contact with Stephen Kerr, Jaliek's foster father, who up until this point has not been involved in the searches. There is no word yet on whether or not he will participate in this one.
