Snow emergencies and parking restrictions

Albany
The City of Albany has issued a SNOW EMERGENCY that will begin at 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at which time all normal parking rules and regulations are temporarily suspended. During the first 24 hours of the snow emergency all vehicles must be parked on the even numbered side of the street. Beginning at 8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 13, 2011 all vehicles must be parked on the odd numbered side of the street for the next 24-hour period. If you are parked on the wrong side of the street during the snow emergency your car will be ticketed and may result in it being towed.
After the second 24-hour period please stay tuned for further announcements. For SNOW EMERGENCY information, call 476-SNOW or log into the city of Albany’s website at www.ALBANYNY.GOV. If your vehicle has been towed, call Albany Police Department Traffic Safety Division at 458-5675 for information on how to retrieve your vehicle.

Athens
A snow emergency has been issued for the Village of Athens beginning Tuesday, Jan. 11 beginning at 6 p.m. until Friday, Jan. 14. All snow emergency parking will be in effect with alternate side of the street parking change at 6 p.m. No parking on Second Street.

Cairo
The Town of Cairo has declared a snow emergency for all roads in the Town of Cairo in Greene County. All residents are asked to park their vehicles off of the main roads and side streets to allow highway plows to clear the streets of accumulating snow. Residents are asked to park their vehicles in driveways and parking lots adjacent to the main roads. All Main Street residents are reminded to follow the regulations posted on the alternate side parking street signs. The snow emergency is in effect until further notice.

Castleton
The Village of Castleton is declaring a snow emergency commencing Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 6 a.m. ending Thursday, Jan. 13 at 12 noon.

Catskill
The snow emergency plan for the Village of Catskill will be initiated on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 8 p.m. All vehicles should be parked on the odd side of village streets from 8 p.m. - 8 a.m. At 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., vehicles should be parked on the even side of the streets. Vehicles should continue to switch sides of the street every 12 hours until the snow emergency has been cancelled. There will be no parking on Main Street from Greene Street to Fairview Avenue beginning at 11 p.m. on Jan. 11 to ensure that Main Street is one of the first streets to be cleared of snow. Residents who usually park on Main Street should utilize municipal parking lots. Violators will be ticketed and eventually towed.

Cohoes
The City of Cohoes will be posting emergency parking signs on designated streets for snow clearing. The parking restrictions will be in effect Thursday, January 13 from 7AM until 7PM. Emergency parking will be enforced on the following streets:

Mohawk Street
Congress Street
White Street
Lancaster Street
Main Street
Howard Street
Lincoln Street
Hart Street
Remsen Street
Sargent Street

Any vehicle in violation of the parking restrictions shall be subject to ticketing and towing.

Green Island
All vehicles must be removed from village streets by 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning, January 13, 2011 beginning in the area of Albany Avenue. Vehicles not moved will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense. Off street parking for village residents is available at Veterans Memorial Stadium, Ford Motor Company parking lot, Honeywell/Bendix lot (Tibbits Avenue lot only), Cannon Street (directly behind the Paine Street park), 11 Hudson Avenue municipal lot, Cornerstone municipal lot (adjacent to the Green Island bridge) and the Lafayette parking lot. These parking lots are available now and we suggest that residents move their vehicles to these lots as soon as possible. Cars will not be allowed back on the streets until snow removal operations are completed. Please call the Green Island Police Department at 273-2401 if further information is needed.

Mechanicville
The City of Mechanicville is declaring a snow emergency to go into effect on Wednesday at 8 a.m. Cars should be parked on the even side of the street until 8 a.m. Thursday, then the odd. Vehicles in non-compliance will be ticketed and towed.

Menands
No parking on any village street until 4pm Thursday (1/13).

Pittsfield
The City of Pittsfield is advising motorists that the Snow Emergency declared in the city will continue until 7:00am on Thursday, January 13. A snow emergency means that vehicles are prohibited from being parked on city streets for the duration of the ban. Violators will be ticketed and vehicles will be towed. The City asks for cooperation of all residents as highway crews are working diligently to clear city streets. Residents are also reminded that itis expected that all sidewalks are shoveled within 24 hours of the end of the snow event. Please keep in mind that children will need to walk to school and it if they need to walk in the road, it puts them in danger.

Saratoga Springs
A a snow emergency has been declared beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12. Except for those streets posted for alternate-side parking, it shall be
Unlawful to park or stand a motor vehicle for any continuous period of time in excess of twelve (12) hours. Each and every motor vehicle on all City Streets in Saratoga Springs,
except those streets posted for alternate-side parking, shall be moved to a plowed or cleared area every (12) twelve hours. All vehicles in violation of the City’s Snow Emergency parking regulations are subject to being ticketed or towed at owner’s expense.

Schenectady
There currently is no snow emergency in the City of Schenectady. However, there is no parking on Priority Streets until the snow has stopped and the entire street has been cleared. The following is a listing of streets within the city designated as Priority Streets: State Street-entire length, Union Street-entire length, Crane Street-entire length, Van Vranken Ave-entire length, Brandywine Ave-entire length, Altamont Ave-entire length, Eastern Ave-Nott Tr to McClellan Street, Albany Street-Veeder Ave to Elm St., Broadway-State Street-south to city line, McClellan Street-State St to Rugby Road, Nott Street-Erie Blvd to Wendell Ave, Chrisler Ave-Main Ave to Altamont Ave, Michigan Ave-Rt 890 Chrisler Ave, Parkwood Blvd-Union St to the Plaza (illegal alternate side only), Glenwood Blv-Union St to the Plaza (illegal alternate side only).

Waterford
The Town of Waterford Highway Department has declared a snow emergency starting 12:00 a.m. Jan. 12 until further notice. All residents must follow snow emergency signs or your car will be towed. Any questions contact Harry Martel, Highway Superintendent, at (518) 235-3413.

Watervliet
THE CITY OF WATERVLIET HAS DECLARED A SNOW EMERGENCY STARTING AT 8:00 AM Thursday January 13, 2011. ALL RESIDENTS MUST BE PREPARED TO MOVE THEIR VEHICALS FOR PLOWING. ANY VEHICALS NOT MOVED FOR PLOWING WILL BE TOWED. Residents should consult the City of Watervliet Web Site for the Snow Removal Policy @ www.watervliet.com.
