ALBANY N.Y. -- Albany police have released a mug shot of the man shot and killed in a confrontation with Schenectady police.

Police said Luis Rivera drew a weapon when officers attempted to stop him on Grove Place Friday, leading them to fire more than a dozen shots.

Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett said all the officers acted within the department's policy and are now on paid administrative leave, but an investigation into the incident will continue.

Rivera died shortly after the incident at Ellis Hospital.

Since the shooting took place on a busy street in broad daylight, officers are looking for witnesses.

Police said Rivera had several previous arrests, but his family said Rivera was not trying to shoot the officers and that gun was empty.
