ALBANY, N.Y. -- A local youth orchestra holds it's annual "play-a-thon" at the Crossgates Mall. YNN's own meteorologist Mike Bono emceed the event, which was a benefit to raise funds for the Empire State Youth Orchestra and their upcoming Asian tour.

The play-a-thon is their largest fundraiser, in which three different Empire State Youth Orchestra's and eight ensembles took part in. 300 musicians played music for shoppers, as they were given donations for their organization.

The funds raised will also go toward scholarships, instrument and music purchases, performances, and musical training.

Helen Cha-Pyo, ESYO Music Director and Conductor said, “We want to raise money because our students, it's a very expensive thing to study music and we only charge about 500 dollars per student in the youth orchestra, top orchestra. in reality, it's about $2,000 to really train the individual students, so the rest is really up to us to raise and we want you to come out and support these young people."

The Empire State Youth Orchestra is a non-profit organization that offers a program of music education and opportunities to young musicians from public and private schools in Eastern New York and Western New England. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
