Comments made by SU men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim following allegations of sexual abuse against former assistant coach Bernie Fine have landed both him and the university a defamation lawsuit. Lawyers for both sides are in New York City today to argue whether certain information is relevant in that case. Our Erin Clarke has more from New York City.

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. -- Lawyers involved in the Bernie Fine case will make arguments today in New York City as to whether information related to the sex life of Fine's wife is relevant in a defamation lawsuit. The lawyers involved are representing Syracuse University men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim, and alleged Bernie Fine abuse victims Bobby Davis and Mike Lang.

Lawyers for SU and Boeheim are seeking to dismiss the case. Ordinarily, that means requests for new information or evidence is not allowed. However, lawyers for Davis and Lang will ask the court to permit them to get information because they believe it will help them defeat the request to move the case to Syracuse.

"What the plaintiffs are trying to do is to get the names, addresses and contact information for Syracuse University basketball players that they believe may have information or knowledge about the sexual relationship between Bernie Fine's wife and the players. And some of this information goes back to players in the 1990s," said legal expert Paul Der Ohannesian.

The outcome of today's hearing could delay the February 21st decision on whether to change the venue from New York City to Onondaga County. Coach Jim Boeheim, Bobby Davis and Mike Lang will likely not be at the proceedings.
