PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Pittsfield Police released the name of the man struck and killed Tuesday by in oncoming train. They said John Castonguay of Pittsfield died after being hit by the two engine train.

The train was traveling Westbound to Selkirk when it hit Castonguay shortly after 7:00 pm Tuesday. He died at the scene near Depot Street.

The engineer saw him and blew his whistle before pulling an emergency brake. Police said the train was traveling at 25 miles per hour before the collision.

Police are not sure why Castonguay was on the track, though residents tell YNN it's often used as a shortcut through town by pedestrians. The accident is still under investigation by Pittsfield Police and CSX police.
