POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A Poughkeepsie school teacher accused of stabbing another teacher with a screwdriver during school hours is expected to be in court soon.

Ronette Ricketts’ lawyer spoke to YNN on Monday, saying he hopes to have the case resolved soon.

Ricketts has pleaded not guilty to the stabbing of Cynthia Glozier, who was stabbed 16 times in the back. Her lawyer says they are hoping a judge dismisses the case in an upcoming hearing and finds Ricketts not guilty, by reason of mental disease.

"It’s a psychiatric defense, that she was under a psychotic episode when she did the stabbing," said Gary Greenwald, the attorney for Ricketts.

Greenwald says Ricketts has not been terminated by the school and that she is still technically an employee.
