Voters are headed to the polls in the 18th Congressional District where five democrats are vying for a chance to take on Republican Congresswoman Nan Hayworth this fall.

YNN spotted two of the candidates at polling places. Rich Becker was in Goshen assisting his mother-in-law in casting her ballot.

"I feel terrific. I feel like we did everything that we need to do. I think we got our message out nice and strong. I feel very confident in the results of today's election and I'm very pleased how everything win," said Becker.

Becker is a doctor as well as a Cortlandt Town Councilman

Meanwhile, Sean Patrick Maloney was in Cold Spring. He served as an advisor to Bill Clinton and received Clinton's official endorsement last week.

"We know our government is broken but we can fix it if we work together. And that's my message today on election day," said Maloney.

Maloney also worked for the Spitzer and Paterson administrations.

The three candidates rounding out the race include Duane Jackson, a navy veteran and a small business owner.

Matt Alexander is the Mayor of Wappingers Falls. He won the endorsements of both political parties when he ran his election campaign for mayor.

And Tom Wilson is the fifth candidate. He's the Mayor of Tuxedo Park.

The newly drawn 18th district encompasses all of Orange County and parts of Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester Counties. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
