ALBANY, N.Y. -- As part of the "Capital South Plan," a new piece of playground equipment and some upgrades come to Elizabeth Street Park in the City of Albany.

In addition to the new equipment, the existing jungle gym is getting a fresh coat of paint and some new mulch is going in to make it safer for kids to play around.
The upgrades were made possible by a $10,000 award from the Albany County Department of Health.

County officials say the award was given in support of the "Capital South Plan." The goal of the plan is to enhance the south end through improvements to parks and housing developments and to promote safe and healthy lifestyles.

Mayor Jerry Jennings said, "A great location for everyone around here. It's easily accessible. There's not a lot of traffic, which is nice so the foot traffic can get in and out of here very easily, and people down here have families that they want to enjoy themselves with, they can come here."

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy said, "As they're doing physical activity, they're strengthening their minds too, and I say this too. Look at the statistics. People who are active, live active lifestyles, they're working their brains constantly, and in the end it's a win-win situation."

Since it was finalized in 2007, more than $76 million has gone into the "Capital South Plan." ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
