HURLEY, N.Y. -- The town of Hurley turns 350. Community members celebrated on Saturday with an event called Hurley Day. Hurley heritage filled the Ulster County Records Center on Foxhall Avenue in Kingston.

The event featured a basket weaving demonstration, reenactments, jazz performances, and games for the kids. Settled by the Dutch in 1662 as Nieuwe Dorp, famous Hurley documents were on display in the vault of the Records Center.

"Hurley itself, right behind Kingston Esopus, you could call it the third established place in Ulster County, in this region. The original people came from Albany, you know, so there wasn't much down here, this was wilderness," said Deana Decker, Public Historian.

Organizers of the event expect hundreds of people to attend.
