POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Leaders in the Pougkeepsie community unveiled a brand new park sign to honor humanitarian Earline Patrice for her dedication to the city. A ceremony was held for the newly constructed Earline Patrice Park at Mansion Square Park sign.

Patrice was a civic leader for Poughkeepsie in the 1960s, working to help children, the needy, and the homeless. Organizers hope the sign will also give the park a new look, and help revitalize the surrounding community.

The Exempt Fireman's Association designed and built the red brick sign with brass lettering. Members said the new sign's elegance better represents her.

"Ms. Patrice was a great community leader that did a lot of things, not only in this neighborhood, but throughout the city of Poughkeepsie. She just had a sign that had her name etched on some wood, and a lot of people didn't connect exactly what she did for Pougkeepsie," explained Chris Petsas, Exempt Fireman's Association.

The park was named after Patrice back in 1995, in remembrance of her many contributions to the community. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
