HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- A wreath laying ceremony to honor Eleanor Roosevelt's 128th birthday was held on Thursday.

A crowd of people met in the Rose Garden at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site in Hyde Park. Organizers say it was a touching ceremony.

"It is wonderful people still feel so connected to her and I think that really speaks to her timeless ideals and values. How she continues to be an influence, even today," said Uri Perrin, Honoring Eleanor Roosevelt Executive Director.

Eleanor Roosevelt was the longest serving first lady of the U.S. and became an advocate for civil rights.
