People in the Mont Pleasant Neighborhood of Schenectady gathered to talk about safety in their community. They were joined by Schenectady Police and Sheriff's Deputies for a meeting at The Faith Deliverance Tabernacle Church. Matt Hunter has more.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A surprising downturn in one neighborhood in Schenectady. The crime rate has gone down more than ten percent in a year.

At its monthly meeting, the Mont Pleasant Neighborhood Association hosted officers from the Schenectady Police Department and Sheriff's Deputies.

Crime from January through September has dropped by more than 12 percent in the neighborhood compared to last year.

While there are several issues still affecting people, including late night loitering among teens and suspected drug activity , police say increased patrols and a closer monitoring of crime data has led to the drop in crime

"We're using crime analysis. Our crime analysts develop certain reports so we can deploy resources to the appropriate areas. Again, it's a matter of resources, so we're using intelligence to really direct our resources to the right areas," said Schenectady Police Department Assistant Chief Brian Kilcullen.

Through September, there had been 449 reported police incidents in Mont Pleasant, down from more than 700 last year.
