A homicide investigation is underway in Glens Falls after police say a five year old was beaten to death. His mother and his mother's boyfriend are charged in the crime. Brooke Selby spoke with police, who say more charges are likely.

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. — According to Steven Suba of Glens Falls, "his doing this to a child, I can't even believe it."

Police believe the assault happened Thursday at a home on Mission Street.

"Upon arrival, we determined that the child was the victim of a head injury, so the child was flown to Glens Falls hospital," said Glens Falls Police Chief William L. Valenza.

Gary was flown from Glens Falls Hospital to Albany Med, where he was later pronounced dead.

Valenza said they "have confirmation that the boy has died and it's something that will affect the charges; it's up to the District Attorney on how they will proceed. "

Thursday, Police arrested the boys mother, 23-year-old Jennie Mattison, for reckless endangerment and her boyfriend, 24-year-old Brandon Warrington, for assault and reckless endangerment. However, those charges could change.

"It's turned into a homicide investigation now," Valenza said.

Those close to the family say this abuse was not out of character for Warrington.

"The girl he was with before, I dont know about this one, he actually hit her and that's when we became sworn enemies," Suba said.

Many are also wondering how any mother could put her child in harms' way.

"I just honestly don't see how a mother could let her boyfriend do what he did. It's just horrible," said Katie Johnson.
