Friends and family came out to St. Edward the Confessor Church to pay their respects to Deanna Rivers. Our Erin Vannella joined us from Clifton Park with more.

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. -- Family and friends gathered at St. Edward the Confessor Church to remember Deanna Rivers, one of the victims of Saturday's car crash on the Northway.

After thousands of people attended Tuesday night's candlelight vigil at Shenendehowa High School, the receiving line was wrapped around the church.

Rivers played second base for the high school's softball team and had just turned 17 the day after Thanksgiving. She wanted to be a teacher and taught religious instruction at the church.

"She said hi to everyone, she was a nice person to talk to, friendly, I never heard her say one bad thing about anyone," Shenendehowa junior Kevin Maher said.

"At her memorial, I saw a card and the person wrote that they didn't know her, but she helped his or her friend that was being bullied and that's one memory that will always stay with me," said Shenendehowa senior Kayla Hiltenverandt.

"She was just such a good person, genuine, never started any drama, was honestly, as perfect as a person could be was probably Deanna,” said Jordan Wallace, a Shenendehowa senior.

Rivers’ funeral mass is Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church. The family asks that remembrances be made to the Deanna Marie Rivers Memorial Scholarship.

Calling hours for Chris Stewart will be held at Corpus Christi Church in Round Lake from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday. A memorial mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Colman's Autistic Program in Watervliet in honor of his cousin, Andy.
