Holiday closures

  • Text size: + -

CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- The holidays are just a few days away, so we thought we would give you a heads up on special hours of operations that you might encounter in the coming days.

City and government offices, schools and post offices will be closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Most libraries will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

CDTA buses will be running on their holiday schedule.

For the last minute shoppers out there, unfortunately Colonie Center, Crossgates and Wilton malls will all be closed on Christmas Day. Many malls have special hours on Christmas Eve, though.

Trash pickup in the City of Albany will not be delayed by the holidays and DGS is reminding folks that holiday decorations can be recycled and even put in the compost. Real trees and wreaths can be composted after the decorations and tinsel is taken off. All cardboard boxes should be flattened and put in or next to the recycling bin. And another thing to note is that wrapping paper is not recyclable. All wrapping paper, bows and ribbons should be put in the trash.

Some trash pickup will be delayed a day by the holidays. If you're not sure about your pick up, check with your collection agency.
