After three years of serving up chocolate delights in the North Country, the owners of a successful business are expanding south. YNN's Matt Hunter has more on the opening of The Chocolate Mill in Saratoga Springs.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – If you're looking for something to satisfy a sweet tooth, chances are you'll find it at the Chocolate Mill in Glens Falls.

"You know, [we have] cakes and pastries and deserts, chocolate confections,” owner and chef Frank Vollkommer said. “We have a coffee program that has grown considerably in the last couple of years."

Three years ago, Vollkommer opened up the Glen Street shop with his wife. As a New Year approaches, they're now putting the finishing touches on their second location on Broadway in Saratoga Springs.

"I'd moved away, went to school and worked both here and abroad and finally I’m able to come back and do this here," Vollkommer said Friday.

Building a shop in his hometown of Saratoga Springs had always been Vollkommer's goal, but choosing Glens Falls for his first location made more economic sense at the time. He says based on his success up here, he's confident the new shop in Saratoga Springs will be a smash hit.

"A fair number of our customers are actually from Saratoga Springs and we've been getting requests to open something here for about two years now, so I think it was time."

Unlike the store in Glens Falls, which employs almost 20 people, the Saratoga location will not initially offer breakfast and lunch or feature any chocolate production on-site. While the venture will start out small, Vollkommer says it will include all the staples their customers love.

"We wanted to give the same theme, the same great product here in Saratoga as we do in Glens Falls, so that's what we've strived to re-create," Vollkommer said.

Vollkommer plans to open up shop by Monday. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
