COLONIE, N.Y. -- Colonie Town Supervisor Paula Mahan delivers the State of the Town address.

Mahan says eliminating the deficit was a huge accomplishment they continue to build on. She says last year, they were able to reduce the total budget by 11 percent, save $1 million in salaries and $2.8 million in contractual expenses.

Still, Mahan says the town continues to face financial challenges. She says they are prepared to meet rising costs while still staying under the two percent tax cap.

She also touched on some redevelopment projects in the area, including redevelopment at the Latham Circle Mall and the site of the former Starlite Theatre.

Mahan said, "All of this new construction and redevelopment activity is very gratifying, not only because it helps build a strong tax base for the town but also because it bears out the success of our concerted efforts to achieve redevelopment of abandoned or under utilized sites. And I am pleased to tell you that we've received many positive comments on how well these redeveloped sites blend in with their surrounding areas."

Mahan also announced the town is adding a new 12.3 acre park on a riverfront property along the Mohawk River. It will be located at the River Road site of the former Latham Water Treatment plant.
