CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- During debate, some Capital Area Assemblymen opposed the bill because, they say, it denies people a constitutional right to defend their home.

"Right and I don't really want to wait for a potential tragedy of a home being invaded and losing a family because they obeyed this law and only had seven bullets in a magazine when there were two or three animals coming in to do them harm, so it cuts both ways," said Assemblyman Steven McLaughlin.

"I think this is a tragic day for freedom and for liberty, not just in this state, but in the world," Assemblyman Jim Tedisco said.

Freshman Senator Kathy Marchione of Saratoga was also one of 18 senators to oppose the legislation. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
