LATHAM, N.Y. -- Some members of the New York Army National Guard will get to attend the Commander-in-Chief's Inaugural Ball.
We had a chance to catch up with Captain Shawn Tabankin of Rexford, Sgt. Major Frank Wicks of West Sand and Staff Sgt. David Martinsen of Troy before they head to Washington, D.C. to celebrate the second inauguration of President Obama.
All three service members are veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Tabankin and Wicks were both awarded the Bronze Star for their service and Tabankin was awarded the Purple Heart.
"I'm looking forward to the camaraderie with the other service members. To have this many service members who were selected to go to this event, I think they are all high quality service members. I get to spend an evening with them and a chance to see the commander and chief and first lady, it is going to be a great event," Wicks said.
The Inaugural Ball takes place Monday. The soldiers are each allowed to bring a guest to the event.
