A reward is being offered to anyone who has information regarding a cruel and sadistic case of animal abuse in Adams. YNN's Madeleine Rivera has more on this story.

ADAMS, Mass. -- "Someone purposely attacked the animal. They took time, they planned, they plotted and they tortured. This was the act of someone who wasn't just unaware, but wanted to hurt," said Berkshire Money Management President Allen Harris.

He's referring to an animal abuse case which Adams animal control officer, Carrie Loholdt, says is one of the worst she's ever seen.

We asked her what her reaction was upon seeing the cat. She responded, "Honestly, just to get her off."

This cat was discovered in an isolated part of town, starving and suffocating. Someone had left it hanging to die.

Loholdt says the string was so tight around Cleo's neck that the cat still has scarring. Loholdt and the volunteers at Northern Berkshire Cat Rescue have spent the last two months nursing Cleo and so far, they've made good progress.

Harris is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who has information regarding the abuse.

"I wanted to use the $5,000 as a magnifying glass, so people thought might have happened that is unusual, perhaps they can tell the police," he said.

So far, there have been no credible leads. As the community waits for an arrest, Cleo continues to recover.

"We're just trying to give her as much space as possible," said Loholdt.

Loholdt is accepting and reviewing applications so Cleo can be adopted to a loving family.
