Police in two communities need help finding whoever is responsible for two bank robberies that happened just minutes apart Wednesday night. Lori Chung has more.
CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- "I saw the police coming in and obviously, I'm concerned about my customers here."
An unsettling sight for Mike Dorato and patrons at his restaurant at Star Plaza in Guilderland Wednesday evening when police say two men walked into the Trustco Bank next door and handed the teller a note demanding cash.
"Usually I’m going over to get change at that time. Luckily we didn't need any change," Dorato said.
The suspects were seen on surveillance and fled on foot after what Dorato says is becoming an all too common scenario at the bank.
Dorato said, "Probably the fifth or sixth time the same bank's been robbed in the last couple of years and it's getting to be a problem."
And not just in Guilderland. Minutes after that robbery, police say a suspect walked into a Trustco Bank in Rotterdam.
"He walked directly to the teller, demanded money, implicating that he had a weapon," said Rotterdam Deputy Police Chief Bill Manikas.
Though the suspect descriptions are different, police haven't ruled out a connection between the two crimes.
Back in Guilderland, the robbery dominated talk at the bar, with folk like Dorato hoping the banks beef up their security.
“It's never been a high risk area, it's always been a nicer area. It's kind of scary to think that kind of thing is going on next door," Dorato said.
