ESOPUS, N.Y. -- Paul DeGraff Junior was arraigned on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in Town of Esopus Court Sunday night.
Police said Degraff, 44, was driving on Salem Street in Port Ewen Thursday when he struck and killed Derek Wood, 18, with his car.
Degraff was released from Albany Medical Center earlier Sunday, where he was being treated for injuries from the accident.
He is accused of driving with a blood alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit.
He was sent to Ulster County Jail and will be back in court at a later date.
Calling hours for Wood will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Gilpatrick-VanVliet Funeral Home in Ulster Park.
The Kingston High School senior was considered a "sports enthusiast," involved in rugby, basketball and baseball.
His funeral is Wednesday at the Town of Esopus United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Wood's family asks that donations be sent to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
