SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- A South Glens Falls man is facing several charges after police said he led them on a chase after an attempted robbery.

The incident happened Sunday night when police said they got a call for a robbery at the Xtra Mart on Third Avenue.

Police said John Harris, 53, told the clerk he had a gun and demanded cash. When the clerk went to get a manager, police said Harris drove away in a stolen Mustang.

Police said Harris was arrested near the boat launch on Forbes Avenue, trying to steal another car.

While in the back of the police car, officers said Harris was able to free his hands to escape, and while still cuffed, hopped into an unmarked police car.

Police said he tried to drive away, but was pulled out of the car before he could put it in gear.

Harris is facing a number of charges, including attempted robbery and attempted grand larceny. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
