SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Greg Veitch is now the new Saratoga Springs Police Chief.

Veitch's family and colleagues were all hand for a swearing-in ceremony at the city's music hall.

He said growing up two blocks from the Saratoga Police Department; he always knew he wanted to be in law enforcement.

"At the end of the day, we swear an oath to protect and serve. If we didn't mean it, then we should not have taken an oath. We have an obligation to our jobs,” said Greg Veitch, the new Saratoga Springs Police Chief.

Veitch's promotion comes after Chris Cole announced he will retire after 23 years on the force.
