Family night at the state park in Saratoga Springs is kicking off what promises to be an eventful next couple of months as the city celebrates the 150th anniversary of horse racing in the Spa City. YNN's Madeleine Rivera has more on Saturday's event.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- "I think it's fantastic. It's a great atmosphere; it's a great place. I'm just glad to be a part of it," said Curtis Cole, a Saratoga Springs resident.

Hundreds flocked to the Saratoga Spa State Park on Saturday for Saratoga 150 family night.

"We came here trying to get away from everybody. But, we keep running into people we know," said John Brueggemann, also a Saratoga Springs resident.

This fun-filled family event is just the beginning of celebration that will continue throughout the summer. Saratoga will hold more than 200 events over the next five months, all to recognize the 150th anniversary of horse racing in the Spa City.

"We love the track. We love the sense of history in the city," said Brueggemann.

Many here experienced something for the first time, as well.

"First time out with the baby for an event like this, very nice," said Cole.

"Yeah, just really excited, I've never been to SPAC before. It's beautiful actually," said Jonathan Ngin from Clifton Park.

And after gloomy weather for the past few days, the sun and the celebrations were a welcome change.

"Next week is even more beautiful. It feels better than 49 and rainy," said Taylor Bouff from Glenville.

As the night ended with fireworks, people said they're looking forward to enjoying the other events.

"Saratoga during the summer is a blast," said Brueggemann.
