SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- A Saratoga Springs man is facing several charges after police say he led them on a high speed chase Sunday morning.
Police say they responded to a home on the south side of the city around 7:15 a.m. for a female victim who appeared to have been assaulted. The victim told police her boyfriend had beaten and choked her.
Officers went to the home where the alleged assault took place and the victim's boyfriend, Anthony Smith, 24 ran from the house. Smith led officers on a chase through Saratoga Springs, Malta and the Village of Ballston Spa. That's where State Police troopers joined the chase. Smith continued to drive through the Town of Milton, then back to Saratoga Springs.
Police say he finally lost control of his car at the intersection of Pine Road and Grand Avenue and then crashed into the woods.
Smith was not injured, but he now faces a number of charges, including rape, assault, DWI, reckless driving and unlawful fleeing a police
