ALBANY, N.Y. -- Former State Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno will return to Albany County Court in 2014.
A judge ordered his new trial to begin on May 12, 2014. Bruno was convicted in 2009 of honest services fraud, but his conviction was overturned after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the honest services statue, and a retrial was later ordered.
Bruno challenged the ruling, and said it constituted double jeopardy. A federal appeals court disagreed and ordered a new trial to move forward. Bruno is accused of taking kickbacks from a business associate in exchange for legislative favors.
