ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany police are looking into whether a burglary and homicide on Western Avenue Wednesday are connected.
Police said they were responding to a report of a broken window at a home on Western. When they arrived at the home, they found the 27-year-old resident dead inside.
Police arrested Oscar Valcarcel, 41, in connection with the burglary, but have not said if he was involved in the death of the homeowner.
Police said the victim did get into a fight, but it's not clear if they fight was with Valcarcel.
"It appears as though the victim, a 27-year-old man, died as a result of injuries, sustained during a psychical altercation," Steve Smith said, an Albany Police Department officer.
Meanwhile, people who live in that neighborhood are shocked something like this happened.
One woman who lives above the victim said she is not only concerned for her safety, but also students who may pass by. The address is close to The College of Saint Rose.
"Unfortunately, Albany's not that safe a city and this is a student area,” said neighbor Bilge Abci. “This is a student area, with young professionals also, but somehow, it's not safe."
Valcarcel has been charged with burglary and petit larceny. He was arraigned and taken to Albany County Jail.
