EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino joined dozens of Law Enforcement and EMS Crews in East Greenbush to stop drivers and get the message out about not drinking and driving especially during this Holiday Season.
The annual event is headed up by William Dikant who years ago tragically lost his wife and two children at the hands of a drunk driver about a quarter of a mile from where the event happened Saturday.
"While we are not telling people they shouldn't drink, what we are saying is don't get behind the wheel after you have had a drink. Make sure you have someone you are with who hasn't been drinking to drive you home, call a cab or call a friend to get home. We want to make sure everyone gets home safe for the holidays," said Kathy Jimino, Rensselaer County Executive.
The volunteers handed out DWI awareness materials to people driving by.
Several other families who have lost loved ones due to drunk driving crashes also took part in the event.
