Some snowfall makes for some happy skiers. Our Eva McKend has more from Belleayre Mountain where they are expecting hundreds to turn out this weekend thanks to some help from Mother Nature.
ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Three to four inches of snow makes for a good start.
"There's some good cover on. The skiing conditions this morning were really quite nice," said Ralph Perez.
"My fingers are always crossed. The more snow the better," said Tom Tar, General Manager of Belleayre Mountain.
Belleayre Mountain is revving up for what they hope will be a busy season.
The Catskills destination typically sees about 700 visitors per day but can comfortably host up to 5,000 people.
According to reports, New York Ski Resorts are often overlooked but the state has the most ski areas in the country.
"This season we have a quicker start up. We've had some good cold weather windows. Last season started off a little bit slow. We were in time last season for the holidays. We had some natural snow during the holiday week which definitely helped," said Tar.
The key to a great season is plenty of snow fall. So far the several inches the Catskills has seen is leaving people feeling pretty optimistic.
"It's nice. It's better than yesterday and last weekend. Last weekend, it was icy and hard. Now, it's a little powdery so it's nice," said Andrew Keaveny.
For skiers who have been anxiously waiting to get back on the slopes, it's been worth the wait.
"There are many reasons why but the main reason is just because it's so much fun," said Devon Dawes.
If there is any indication as to what kind of season Belleayre may have, the GM says they have already seen an increase in season pass sales.
