TROY, N.Y. -- 'Tis the season of giving, and one local community did just that. X's to O's vegan bakery in Troy found themselves in need of a little help this holiday season.

If they could not pay a $25,000 bill, their power would be shut off. The bakery sent out a heartfelt message to their loyal customers asking for help, and they got an overwhelming response.

X's to O's planned to raise money by selling gift cards that would increase in value by 15 percent after January 10. In less than 24 hours, they had reached their goal.

"The entire community stepped up, and we exceeded our goal in under 24 hours,” bakery owner Sarah Preston said. “It's really awesome. We're very psyched to come up on the next holiday."

Preston put up signs at the bakery, and the sale was heavily promoted on Facebook.

She also said the sale will continue through Christmas. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
