WATERFORD, N.Y. -- People in Waterford are wondering what will happen to the McDonald's building and its employees after it was destroyed in a fire.

The restaurant employed more than 50 people.

Franchise owner Roger Grout owns five restaurants and has about 250 employees. Grout is hoping he can find work for the former Waterford employees.

"We want to be back here for all the good reasons, for me as a businessman, my employees to have jobs and for my customers to have food and deliver a great experience. So we'll be back, we'll be better," Grout said.

The building was damaged so badly it could not be saved. Fire officials believe it started in the fryer section and then went into the ventilation system.
