VALATIE, N.Y. -- A house in Valatie was destroyed after a fire early Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out at a home on Hunter Drive around 3:45 a.m. The fire chief says it took about an hour to get the fire under control.

Fire officials say they had to break ice in a nearby pond in order to access water to put the fire out. The cold conditions also made it difficult for crews.

"It's really hard to operate, especially with the cold. Especially with flowing water and stuff like that. It doesn't take much for the firefighters to get really cold," said Niverville Fire Chief Wayne Huyck.

No one was hurt in the fire. Officials are trying to determine the cause.
