In this edition of Scholar Athlete of the Week, we honor Cristina Cummings of Pine Plains, N.Y.

PINE PLAINS, N.Y. -- “I’m 17 and I go to Stissing Mountain High School," said Cristina Cummings, Time Warner Cable News Scholar Athlete.

For senior Cristina Cummings, she has a lot on her plate.

“It’s a lot with all the clubs that I do here,” she said.

The 17 year old is also part of two honor society clubs, and carries a 3.8 GPA.

“Cristina gives a lot of positive direction to her fellow students, whether it be in her own grade or younger," said Jeremy Webber, Stissing Mountain High School Director of Athletics.

With clubs and homework, Cummings has been able to compete in many varsity sports including tennis and soccer and even earning a third degree black belt, in taekwondo. Which you could say brings out her competitive side.

“I’m never afraid to go jump for a ball or to push someone and slide tackle, I’m always in it to get it," Cristina said.

Of all the sports, her passion she says is soccer. Starting at seven years old, and winning awards ever since.

But her training isn’t just on the field, off it she’s working out six days a week for division two college soccer, as she’s made a verbal commitment to play for the Dominican University of California, next year.

“A lot of our family is over there. Going back there is technically like my home where I get home sick being here, so I really would like to go and be with them," she said.

Other than lifting weights and doing pushups, in the future she says she wants to become an occupational therapist. Helping others as well as being close to one of her passions.

“I really want to help people, and this type of therapy can keep you connected with athletics as well," Cristina added.
