The victim in Monday's shooting on Grand Street has died. Our Maria Valvanis has more.
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Just before 9:00 Monday morning police received a call for shots fired here near the corner of Elm and Grand streets.
Steve Smith said, "Officers responded to the scene and when they got here they found a man who had been shot."
Police aren't releasing the name of the victim, but say the 38 year old was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
"Right now we are investigating this as a homicide," said Steve Smith.
Police wouldn't say whether they have any suspects in mind, but they were seen coming in and out this white brick building on the corner, for most of the day. The shooting is the second in just three days, and community activist group SNUG says the sixth shooting this month. Police don't believe the crimes are connected, but say it's too soon to determine what happened.
Smith said, "This is an ongoing investigation at this point, right now were just urging anyone with information to come forward."
SNUG is holding two rallies this week in response to the shootings. The first will be Christmas night on the corner of Elberon Place and Quail Street and the second will be on the corner of Grand and Elm streets on Thursday. Both start at 6:00.
