CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- Students from throughout the Capital Region are beginning to brainstorm ideas for upcoming robot competitions.
On Saturday, members of high school robotics teams gathered on the RPI campus to learn what the 2014 FRC challenge will be.
Then, for the next six weeks, the students will design, build, and test a robot to meet the challenge and wait for the competitions to begin.
"This is the first real hands on experience that I've had, being able to work with the robot as well as do some of the project management stuff, holding meetings and doing the rest of that, applying for grants and sending out for sponsorships, which is some of the stuff you can't get at school, you can only get it here at this competition," said Matthew Hoffer, Cambridge Student.
Many of the teams at the Kick Off event will return to the Rensselaer campus in March to compete in the New York Tech Valley Regional Competition.
