Winter isn't going anywhere any time soon, and those who work outside are constantly trying to find ways to stay warm. However, at local car washes, more business can be better than bundling up! Innae Park explains.
COLONIE, N.Y. -- While there isn't any white stuff in the sky, there's plenty frozen on the ground. Along with it: the other white stuff that coats your car.
Scott Roberts, the assistant manager at Hoffman Car Wash in Colonie, said, “Salt all over the vehicles tears up the clear coat, eats away at any unprotected metal, so you always want to get your car washed during the wintertime.” He added, “Winter is definitely our busiest season.”
However, more washings means more work for those at Hoffman Car Wash. With the recent frigid weather, managers are taking steps to make sure everyone is safe.
“We do try to have our employees work inside the base as much as possible to keep them warm,” said Roberts. “We have to open and close the doors at least in the mornings when it's slower because our cloths will grow ice on them.”
Many customers say the cold won't keep them from getting their car clean. Thanks to all their business, these employees are able to get a little warmer.
Roberts explained, “Once you're working out there, it's not too bad because you are working up your body heat. It is a very labor-intensive job. We try to keep it [operation] tighter, so that employees work a little harder, so they can keep that body heat up.”
The business’ numbers see a slight drop when the thermometer does. As a result, they hope it warms up soon because the more work they get, the warmer they stay.
