TROY, N.Y. -- A 10-year-old boy with a rare disease will be sworn in as an honorary Troy Police Officer. JP Honsinger has Niemann Pick Type C disease.

It's an extremely rare disease, also known as childhood Alzheimer’s. For the ceremony, JP will be wearing a Troy Police Department uniform shirt, and Troy police badge.

After the event, JP and his father will ride along with an officer.

Last November, a fundraiser was held at the Century House to help raise money for JP's family. Members of the UAlbany lacrosse team were on hand for the sports themed event.
