LATHAM, N.Y. -- The All-Stars Academy field was taken over by 36 teams on Sunday for the second annual Vincenzo Rizzo Wiffle Ball Tournament.
The event was created to honor the memory of Vincenzo, who died in 2013. All of the proceeds from the tournament will benefit the building of a playground in Vinny's honor.
His family expects to begin construction on the playground this summer.
"The playground will be some kind of beautiful sight to look at. It will probably bring joy to my family and many many children, and just having something positive come out of this horrific tragedy will be healing for me," said Tina Rizzo, Vinny's mother.
Vinny's friends and family have already raised $70,000 toward the building of the playground.
