ALBANY, N.Y. -- A new challenger with a familiar name is in the race to unseat state senator Hugh Farley.
Madelyn Thorne, who had an unsuccessful bid for the seat in 2012, said it didn't take her long to decide to run again.
While announcing her candidacy Thorne criticized Senator Farley, saying he hasn't stood up for the district when it needed him.
"It's a travesty that even as we pay some of the highest taxes in the state, our schools are still severely underfunded, causing cuts to programs, staff and classes,” Thorne said.
The Schenectady native said among her priorities are increasing the minimum wage and passing the women's equality act.
