NORTH ADAMS, Ma. -- Governor Deval Patrick met with state and local leaders Tuesday afternoon at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Ahead of the meeting, the governor provided an update, and said the application for a satellite facility through Berkshire Medical Center will be signed on Tuesday. However, the application must still receive state and federal approval.
Although the state plans to expedite the process, it's unclear how long it would take for federal approval.
With North Adams Regional Hospital officially closed, the governor said he has been working non-stop to find medical care for the city. It took many people by surprise, including the governor, when many assumed a deal between North Adams Regional Hospital and Berkshire Medical would be reached.
"When you consider how close we were and how involved we were in getting a deal before their announcement, I think it's impossible to think what more could have been done," said Patrick.
The state government plans to do whatever they can to ensure healthcare options are available in the city.
