SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- It was a big celebration in Schenectady Thursday, as the city came out to honor the National Champion Union Dutchmen hockey team.
The team was honored with a parade that began on campus, and ended downtown at city hall, where a ceremony was then held.
A huge crowd greeted the team at city hall, and hundreds lined the streets to watch the team go by atop of fire trucks.
Union won the first national championship in the hockey program's history last weekend, beating Minnesota 7 to 4.
Two of Union's star players, Shayne Gostisbehere and Mat Bodie, have already signed professional contracts following the team's win last weekend.
