The Capital Region is known to many as Tech Valley, and is home to cutting edge technology companies that are launching us into the next generation. That includes a Troy-based tech company whose main focus is on the ever-changing healthcare industry. In this Capital Region Business Beat, Jon Dougherty introduces us to Etransmedia and how it's giving us easier access to our medical records and medical care.

TROY, N.Y. -- Have you ever had a problem getting in contact with your doctor? Making a doctor's appointment?

It can be a headache.

However, as we progress through the digital age it's becoming less of a pain, thanks in part to the Capital Region company, Etransmedia.

Etransmedia is a software company based in Troy that's helping to transform the healthcare industry by making the lives of patients and doctors easier.

"The doctor uses it for his clinical chattings, when he sees you as a patient. If he has to record something; what he saw, what he diagnosed, what he prescribed, he notes that," said Etransmedia President & CEO/Co-founder Vikram Agrwal.

With their Connect2Care software, medical information is accessible online. You can schedule an appointment, send your doctor a direct message, refill a prescription, and pay a bill. It also comes in handy when you switch doctors.

"When the patient leaves the medical practice they need access to medical records and we are able to provide that online to patients," said Etransmedia Chairman/Co-founder Vikash Agrawal.

Etransmedia was created in Troy in 2000 by Vikash and Vikram Agrawal.

The two brothers came from India to study at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. After graduation, the entrepreneurs started Etransmedia and made the Capital Region their home.

"We both got married after we started the business and we have kids and we are raising them here," Vikash said. " I bought a home a few years back and I'm a native Albany guy now."

Etransmedia has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing private companies in the country the last seven years in a row.

It has nearly 400 employees in regional offices throughout the U.S. and serves more than 15,000 doctors nationwide.

"It's all about making it easier for the patient and making sure they get good care," Vikram said.
