CAPITAL REGION -- Two local students will compete Tuesday for a chance to becoming the country's top speller during the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

Lydia Loverin, 12, is a student at Mountain Road School in New Lebanon, and Katie Ammann, 13, who attends Knox Junior High School in Johnstown.

The two girls will begin competition with the computer-based preliminaries on Tuesday. The final contestants will face off in the semi-final round on Thursday, followed by the championship later that night.
