SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Schenectady City Mission is getting a big boost from local business.
Donations from Collision Experts have allowed the mission to build an expansion to its child enrichment program. The business raised $7,100 as part of its Holiday Appeal fundraiser.
Typically, Collision Experts splits the proceeds from its fundraiser to multiple charities. However, this year they decided to make a bigger impact.
Mission officials said the program currently houses six children, with the addition of seven more on the weekends.
"It's really the most important thing we do. To be a place that people come in crisis, but not simply a place to survive, to get through a hard part of their lives. But a place to grow, a place to be nurtured, a place to discover your potential. We can do that for adults. How much more important we can do that for children who are really so innocent," said Michael Saccocio.
"I just love being here. We've worked here at Christmas to do some things, served at the dining hall before. I just love the place, I really do," said MaryAnn Bowman, Collision Experts.
The new center includes fun activities for children that give them something to do during the day, while enriching and developing their lives.
